Veins are used for blood draws for a few reasons. ... Arterial blood is oxygenated where as venous blood is much less oxygenated. Vein walks are thinner than arteries, therefore, easier to access with a needle. Veins are closer to the skin than arteries, therefore, they are much easier to access with a needle.
