Le génotype est l'ensemble des allèles d'un individu. Comme une espèce donnée compte en général plusieurs milliers de gènes, il est quasiment impossible pour deux individus d'une même espèce d'avoir le même génotype. Les allèles sont donc source de diversité génétique au sein d'une espèce
